Senior Ben Shreve is the valedictorian this year at Maranatha Christian Academy. He’s also making waves in the field of robotics.
Part of the “Mustang Gear Gang”
The robotics program at Maranatha Christian Academy has found success in its three years of existence. The team is called The Mustang Gear Gang and recently placed first in state competition.
“I’m really proud of the team, “ said Ben Shreve, a senior who has been on the team since its inception.
He will also be on the team when they compete at the next level of competition in Detroit.
“It’s a moon theme landing,” said Shreve. “So we have our rover we have to build and we have to get as many minerals as possible into this space shuttle.”
Creating the robot was a laborious process. The robot named “Matt” took five months to build. Students used 3-D printing to make precise parts for the robot. “Matt” is fast and has a wide range of motion.
The robotics team enjoys creating robots and the problem solving that comes along with the competition.
“I like solving these problems,” said Shreve. “Instead of saying yes, this is a problem, it has to be solved. We’re actually the ones solving these issue and making the world a better place.”
Standout Student
Ben was named a commended student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. He hasn’t decided on a college yet, but plans to major in civil engineering.
