When I arrived in U.S., the very next day, I went to the Macy's Labor Day parade. Ed Koch was the mayor and he was in the parade. When he walked close by, I said hi, and he greeted me back in person!
I visited the 9/11 memorial several times, remembering Ken, Alex, Delores and many other former colleagues with Marsh McLennan on the 97th floor of the North tower, who fell on 9/11, 2001.
I still recall Ken's advice on giving preference to talking to people to writing to them, thank you Ken! Delores interviewed me when I applied for the job and her smile was so warm and genuine! Alex had a coffee with me on the last day I worked for Marsh to bid me good bye....
Every time I visited New York, I liked to stand at Times Square, feeling the joyous and uplifting vibe of this most lively place one could imagine; It had an entirely different ethos, and was a "Red Light District" at the time when I first came in the late 80's, filled with prostitution and adult sex stores and clubs.
Besides Time Square, I also loved to survey the windows of Bergdorf Goodman, marveling at the stunning, sexy displays for the holiday season;
New York has a best kept secret-- the free Staten Island ferry. The 30-minute ride affords the best views of Manhattan and Jersey's skylines, the Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty. I took the ferry back and forth usually without delay, enjoying the views and reflecting on the spirit of liberty the Lady symbolizes.
New York city has many world class sites. Most are well known. The video shows some of the sites in chronicle order:
-- Statue of Liberty
-- Manhattan skyline from Staten Island Ferry
-- Wall Street
-- 9/11 Memorial
-- World Trade Center Path Station (Oculus)
-- Flatiron Building on 23rd Street
-- Empire State Building
-- Macy's on 34th Street
-- Grand Central Station
-- Times Square on Broadway and 42nd Street
-- Radio City and Rockefeller Center
-- St. Patrick's Cathedral
-- Central Park
-- Time Warner Center
-- The Riverside Church
-- New York City Subway
The most recent addition is the new World Trade Center PATH station, called the Oculus. It resembles a bird being released from a child's hand, just stunning!
